Hi Lisa, thank you for accepting our interview invitation! Let’s start with the basics. How did you start working in the industry? Who is your biggest inspiration?
I earned a degree in interior design and have always wanted to own my own business, but I spent most of my career in the corporate world focusing on business operations and project management. However, the company I worked at for 30 years closed when the owner retired. I decided that moment was the perfect opportunity to take on my next adventure and pursue something I really love, which is creating inviting interiors. So, I ended up purchasing a Kitchen Tune-Up and was able to combine my own business with my passion.
My biggest inspirations are my mom and dad. They have always encouraged me to go for whatever I set my mind to, which is exactly what I’ve done.
We’re interested in learning more about Kitchen Tune-Up and what you do. How would you describe your work?
Kitchen Tune-Up is a kitchen remodeling service that specializes in 1-5 day “tune-ups.” We offer five core services, which include one-day tune up wood restoration, cabinet painting, cabinet re-dooring, refacing and custom cabinets. We also do countertops and backsplashes.
I describe my job as being a detective to find the best solution that meets my clients’ needs and solves their problems. We offer many styles and choices, and the variety allows me to deliver styles that fit my clients’ unique taste and lifestyle.
What has been the most rewarding part of owning a company in the interior design business?
The most rewarding part of my job is unveiling the finished product and seeing how happy my clients are with their kitchen transformation. We pride ourselves on our dedication to crafting personalized kitchens that makes our clients fall in love with their homes all over again. I also love being able to give back to the community by providing homeowners with a stress-free and fun, elevated kitchen remodeling experience.
How much do you think new kitchen cabinets can improve the look and feel of a home?
I strongly believe that the kitchen is the heart of the home, so changing and updating your kitchen can have a dramatic impact on how your homes look and feel. Kitchen updates can make your home feel more welcoming and comfortable. In addition, updating cabinets can increase your home’s value.
What’s been your most challenging project involving kitchen cabinets?
In general, it can be challenging helping clients understand their personal style and translating that into a great design that suits them. Again, working in this industry is like being a detective and getting into the minds of your clients. Every person has different preferences, so the challenge is different every time.
You have a lot of experience under your belt. Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting out in the home improvement industry?
If you are passionate about home improvement and creating better environments for your clients, just keep believing that you can do it. Finding a company to work through that provides you with strong training and ongoing support like Kitchen Tune-Up is a big help. You will be set up for success.
What do you see as the future for you and your company?
I see a lot of growth and happy clients. In addition to our company’s growth, we have created a business environment that makes employees feel appreciated and offers them opportunities for growth, so I see them growing in their skills and becoming successful in the interior design industry.
